I'm turning 65 what do I do?

Well....Happy Birthday first! 65 is one of those big birthdays -- we celebrate you!

Secondly, congratulations as you are probably about to become eligible for one of the most popular of government programs, Medicare!

This can be confusing and at times overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. We have helped thousands of clients through the years and are eager to help you. We will walk you through the whole process and will be as involved as you want us to be - from taking you all the way through signing up - to just answering a few questions.

There are a few steps you will need to complete to get your Medicare in place.

1. Determine and confirm eligibility

2. Make sure you are properly enrolled in Original Medicare and aware of the associated costs and what it covers

3. Determine the type of plan that is right for you (Medicare supplement vs Medicare Advantage)

4. Choose a plan in your area that your doctor will take with the benefits you need

5. Enroll during your Initial Election window (we will explain your time frames)

I'm over 65 and retiring, what do I do?

You have had a great career and now you deserve to have an equally great (or better!) retirement. Many people are hesitant to retire because they are worried about leaving their Company’s group health plan. Sound familiar? In most cases, this is an unfounded fear. When people realize how powerful their Medicare Rights are and how good Medicare coverage is, they breathe a sigh of relief and eagerly retire to their new life!

You belong to a growing segment of the population. Increased longevity coupled with the fact that many want to continue working to shore up family finances, comprise a large and steadily growing group within our country. We are thankful for your continued service, mentorship, and experience.

When you decide to retire, there are several things that need to happen:

1. Decide on a retirement date

2. Alert your HR to your intention

3. Enroll in Medicare and establish an effective date so that there is no break in coverage

4. Determine the type of plan that is right for you (Medicare supplement vs Medicare Advantage)

5. Choose a plan in your area that your doctor will take with the benefits you need>

6. Enroll during your Initial Election window

NOTE: This is especially important is you delayed your enrollment in Part B while you have been covered on your company plan. The rules are a bit different.

I am already enrolled in Medicare A & B -- are better benefits out there?

If you are already enrolled in Medicare A & B, you are now in what we might call a “maintenance” phase of Medicare coverage.

As you age, you may occasionally have a health change that might require new or more intensive medical attention. You might find yourself needing services that were not as important when you first enrolled such as comprehensive dental or transportation. Or, you may be prescribed a medication that your plan does not cover or covers at a higher cost. In other words, you may need occasional help in optimizing your coverage to changes in your needs. You do this by having a periodic review of your existing plan against others that may be available in your same area. Of course, we would want to find one that your DR(s) will accept and one that will allow you to use the hospital facilities that you prefer.

Remember, not only does our health change but plans, drug formularies, and doctor networks will change as well. Additionally, new plans are often introduced. Embrace these changes and realize that when it happens, it gives you a chance to “maximize” and “fine tune” your medical services!

What is Telemedicine? Don't I already have it?

Telemedicine is receiving board certified physician care through the phone via talking or facetime typically in 20 minutes or less. They can examine, diagnose, and prescribe without you or your loved ones even leaving the house. It is safer and faster.

Most people do have it, but don't know how to use it. My carrier will make it as easy an app on your phone. 71% of all doctor visits can be diagnosed through telemedicine and many times when I have personally used it we have seen a doctor and have our prescriptions within 30 minutes.
